Learning at B'nai Harim
B'nai Harim provides regularly scheduled educational talks on relevant topics, Hebrew lessons, intergenerational programs and ongoing book discussions.
Adult Education
The Adult Education Committee provides programming for the community on a monthly basis. Our programs are open to anyone without charge. We also provide access to adult educational programming offered by various synagogues and organizations on ZOOM. Check the temple calendar, monthly newsletter and the weekly email for programming dates and details.
Library
Welcome to the library at B’nai Harim! Our library is housed in the office/classroom in the synagogue. We have built our collection from books purchased to add to our collection and from donations made by congregants. We have a wonderful collection of nonfiction books covering Jewish culture, theology, and holidays, the experiences of Jews around the world and an extensive collection of books on the Holocaust. We also have a wide variety of fiction books reflecting Jewish culture. In our children and teens shelves, we have picture books for beginning readers and fiction and nonfiction books for teens. The library is open during services and events held in the building.
Library information for members
Book Club
The B'nai Harim Book Club reads a variety of book genres including fiction & non-fiction; most are Jewish-oriented. Book choices are recommended by book club members as well as members of the congregation. The books are read in the order of what interests the members. The group meets approximately every 6-8 weeks on Zoom and is open to all members of the congregation
Check the weekly email and the monthly newsletter for details on the current book choice and upcoming meeting day and time.
Hebrew for Beginners
Our Beginners’ Hebrew class covers the Aleph Bet (consonants and vowels), reading practice and vocabulary building for those with little or no knowledge of the language. By the end of this class students will be able to read along in the prayer book and follow a Torah reading.
Women's Torah Study
Women’s Torah Study encourages a deep dive into the text of the Tanakh (Jewish Bible). Each month we explore the characters and their interactions with an eye toward better understanding our own world and our own lives. There is no prior knowledge necessary. The class uses many different translations and English commentaries.

Basseva Seneor has choices, but none are good. She can choose baptism to save herself from the brutality of the Inquisition. But that means giving up the man she loves. Or she can leave her homeland and never see her family again. In medieval Spain, after the Edict of Expulsion was signed into law in March 1492, there were few options for a Jew. -
