Our History

Our synagogue was incorporated in 1996 with 13 original families and has grown to more than 80 families in 2022. Our first services were lay-led and held in congregants' homes. In 2001, we began holding services in the social hall of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Pocono Pines (Now St. Maximillian Kolbe). We moved to a “home of our own” in 2004.

We continue to participate in interfaith activities in our community. Tikkun Olam (healing the world) is very important to B’nai Harim, and we are proud of the many community programs we participate in.

B'nai Harim celebrated its 25th anniversary on May 14, 2022. View the Anniversary newsletter.

Archives

Our Temple Historian, Dr. Norma Krasne-Levine has compiled a myriad of valuable information about Congregation B’nai Harim, beginning with the creation of the synagogue in 1996.

The archives are housed on a variety of shelves in the Temple Library. You can find copies of the Temple Newsletters, Newspaper articles, Yizkor Memorial Booklets, Anniversary Journals, Party Invitations, Social Action Activities, Interfaith Programs with local churches and mosques and Photo Albums.

One can also find information about the Temple’s history, Shabbat and Holiday Services, Social Events, The Barbara Kapitansky Religious School, Hebrew Classes, the Teen Program, Intergenerational Learning Programs, and the Community Chanukah Programs offered throughout Monroe County Libraries and Community Centers.

The Archives are open and available to anyone interested in perusing them any time the Temple doors are open, or by appointment with the B’nai Harim Historian or Librarian.his content.
